No.1      Line Development Breeder Assistant

WORKING LOCATION:  Changchun (2)/ Shandong (2)

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

Monsanto is currently seeking a highly motivated Field Research Assistant with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary Research Team.  The Field Research Assistant will assist in all phases of a breeding program.

The successful Field Research Assistant has the opportunity to work in all operations related to field trials, seed preparation, field plot management, data collection, harvesting and trial plots.

This is a unique opportunity to work with leading edge technology and talented research scientists.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

·         Manage different operations, seeding, management of plants, data collection, harvest, etc.

·         Assist in computer related activities and provide support for testing activities such as operation of shelling systems, seed counters,  and seed packaging

·         Perform safety inspections, and assist in providing safety training and guidance to field personnel.

·         Supervision and training of temporary employees

·         Work closely with other research sites to keep program operating efficiently

·         Participate with team to successfully maintain the Quality Standards

·         Overnight travel during the planting and harvest season.  

 

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND COMPETENCIES:

No.2     Trialing Officer

Location: Shandong, Yunnan, Sichuan

 

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

The major responsible is for establishing and managing on-station breeding trials.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

•       Responsible for establishing and managing on-station breeding trials.

•       Supervise temporary personnel ensuring that trialing and safety protocols are followed.

•       Collect relevant trial data, summarize results, and communicate to stakeholders.

•       Participate in breeding meetings ensuring alignment of testing plan with various stakeholders.

 

Desired Skills/Qualifications:

•       BS or MS in Agronomy or related field of study.

•       Experience in agricultural or vegetable research.

•       Broad knowledge of crop production and farming practices.

No.3      Data Manager

Location: Beijing, China

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a high potential candidate to provide data management support for Monsanto’s transgenic plant testing pipeline.  The successful candidate will directly report to Collaborations Lead and dotted-line report to Data Architect. He/she will participate in the following activities:

·         Will work closely with Monsanto scientists and external collaborators to understand various scientific and legal requirements for genes to be tested in the pipeline.

·         Will collect and assemble data packages to support gene nominations, to track the status of nominated genes within the pipeline, and to provide regular reports to project teams and collaborators.

·         Will collaborate with IT teams to define specifications for database and application development, participate in prototyping and testing, and provide necessary support for team members to use IT applications.

·         Responsible for data quality checks and curation, including performing data loading, correcting data entries when necessary to ensure complete and accurate data in corporate databases.

·         To ensure seamless data transfer among various systems.

Qualification and Experience

·         BS or MS degree in computer science   

·         Must be proficient in Java EE programming including EJB3, JPA, JSF with at least 2 years projects experience (Please describe the projects and your responsibilities in your CV)

·         Must be familiar with JBoss middleware including JBoss AS, JBoss Seam, Hibernate, Richfaces

·         Must be familiar with Linux/Unix working environment

No.4      Research Associate

LOCATION:    Hainan of the South China

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:      

A) Organize field trials including sowing, transplanting; trial evaluation and data collection; analysing data; requesting and supervising contract labour.

 

B) Support the establishment of breeding program with breeder, station and farm manager, and counterparts located in sweet corn program located in Thailand.

 

C) Maintain close relationships with farm manager and support team to ensure proper implementation of breeding activities.

 

D) Work across the vegetable R&D organization to support the implementation and establishment of breeding technology tools.

 

E) Manage all aspects of seed maintenance, organization, inventory, tracking and retrieval.

 

F) Actively participate and champion ES&H programs on site.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (MAIN AREAS OF WORK RESPONSIBILITIES)

1.      Manage all aspects of field and greenhouse operations associated with breeding program including seeding, management of trials, pollinations, data collection, harvest, seed processing, inventory, and shipping of nursery and hybrid test material.

2.      Selection, over site, and maintenance of testing locations – preparation, planting, maintenance, data collection and harvesting.

3.      Ensure that the trial implementation, evaluation and data gathering and summaries adhere to rigorous standards of scientific execution and in accordance with breeder instructions.

4.      Ensure that breeding records and data are well maintained and up to date.

5.      Maintain an updated knowledge and understanding of regulatory affecting the company in China. And ensure that management of station and breeding programs should be conducted on the company rules (FCPA etc).

6.      Interact with scientists, breeders, assistants on and off site for project related needs.

7.      Supervise and training of temporary employees.

8.      Ensure that DPR goals and comments are properly done in timely manner.

9.      Develop and maintain close relationships to get useful information across the relevant private and public institutes.

Job Description:
We are looking to recruit a high potential candidate to join the collaboration team at Monsanto’s Beijing Biotech Center. The Collaboration Manager will be engaged in all pre-deal activities with the following responsibilities:

·                     Play a key role in deal origination through desk research, networking, and business development activities

·                     Provide technical leadership for creative and effective interaction with external academic and industry research laboratories in China in order to identify and enable a broad range of research collaborations

·                     Coordinate cross functional teams in evaluation of strategically important technologies

·                     Ensure timely communication with stakeholders to gain inputs and alignment during the deal process

·                     Participate in deal structuring, negotiation and preparing the necessary transaction documentation and agreements

·                     Establish close interactions with the Monsanto commercial team in China to enable seamless coordination and collaboration.

Qualification and Experience:

·                     Ph.D. from top schools in plant genetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, biochemistry, breeding or other related fields

·                     Business degree such as MBA is a plus but not a must

·                     More than 3 years of work experience in technical management in a life science or biotechnology environment

·                     Extensive business network within the biotech research community in China

No.6      Testing Operations Manager Assistant

WORKING LOCATION:  Heilongjiang (3) / Shandong (2)

The Testing Operations Manager is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the testing program as well as the general operations of a multifunctional research site.  This individual is critical to research implementation and will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge proprietary field research equipment, superior genetic material, and help drive large yield testing programs.

Responsibilities:
• Ensure that site staff is trained in all ESH procedures, regulatory and compliance protocols, and business conduct protocols.
• Acquire and maintain facilities and equipment for effective and efficient functioning of all programs.
• Participate in the hiring and supervision of program support staff.
• Process hybrid seed for Monsanto Testing and packet and set up pre-commercial experiments as required.
• Administer the recruiting, training, development and retention of personnel
• Manage station budget.
• Implement and coordinate specialized nursery and yield testing equipments.

• Communicate with cooperative farmers in both nursery and yield test locations.

Required Skills/Experience
• B.Sc. in Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Agriculture Engineering or related field of study and 8+ years of significant people and project management in an agricultural-related position.
• Broad knowledge of crop production and farming practices.
• Experience with farm equipment operation and repair.
• Team leadership and supervisory experience.
• Strong computer skills related to data acquisition, organization, and data analysis.

The LDB will directly interact with global breeding organization, commercial breeding, yield testing, breeding technology, trait development, and commercial organizations serving as a key member of the technology development pipeline. This role offers the opportunity to work with the world's largest global germplasm pool.  The LDB will also have the opportunity to incorporate the latest marker-assisted breeding tools to develop superior inbred lines.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

* Oversee a breeding and testing program that will lead to the development of corn inbreds.

• Develop a thorough knowledge of the hybrids in the region in order to provide input on the product development process.
• Ensure that all China regulatory and compliance protocols are followed.

This role offers the opportunity to work with the world's largest global germplasm pool to create the next generation of superior hybrids and commercial products.

* Manage the hybrid testing program taking responsibility for hybrids advanced from PS1 - PS4.

• Utilize latest breeding technologies to develop superior hybrids for market segments.

• Analyze data across locations and seasons of testing necessary for hybrid advancement meetings.
